A detailed description of the itinerary
The journey begins with a 1-hour scenic flight from Kathmandu to Dhangadhi, a city in the far-western Terai region of Nepal. Upon arrival, you can explore the city, visit local markets, and prepare for the long drive into the mountains. Overnight stay in Dhangadhi.
After an early breakfast, we take a 10–12 hour drive through winding mountain roads and lush green hills towards Gokuleshwar. The drive offers a blend of lowland scenery, river valleys, and terraced fields. Overnight stay in Gokuleshwar.
We continue our journey with a 4–5 hour drive to Latinath, a beautiful village with rich cultural significance. This area is home to the famous Latinath Temple, an important pilgrimage site for Hindus. We spend the night in Latinath, soaking in the peaceful village atmosphere.
The trekking adventure officially begins! A 5–6 hour trek takes us through forests, small streams, and traditional settlements. The ascent is gradual, allowing for a comfortable pace. Ghusa, our destination for the day, is a remote village offering stunning views of the surrounding hills. Overnight stay in a tent or basic teahouse.
We trek for 6–7 hours, navigating through dense pine and rhododendron forests. The trail includes river crossings over suspension bridges and scenic ridges that offer breathtaking views of snow-capped peaks. We reach Domal, a sacred place for Hindu pilgrims, where we set up camp for the night.
The trek continues for 5–6 hours as we pass through untouched landscapes with glacial rivers, meadows, and remote villages. Saheb Bagar is a beautiful open valley surrounded by towering mountains, making it an ideal spot to rest and admire the Himalayan scenery. Overnight stay in a tent.
This is one of the most challenging yet rewarding days of the trek. We ascend gradually over 6–7 hours, following rugged trails with high-altitude grasslands and rocky terrain. Upon reaching API Himal Basecamp at 4,000m, we are greeted with breathtaking views of API Himal (7,132m), glacial lakes, and stunning landscapes. Overnight camping at the basecamp.
A well-deserved rest and acclimatization day at basecamp. We explore the surrounding area, including glacial moraines, ice formations, and pristine lakes. For those feeling energetic, a short hike to a nearby viewpoint offers panoramic views of the Himalayan range.
We begin our return journey with a 5–6 hour descent back to Saheb Bagar. The downward trek allows for a different perspective of the landscapes, with more time to appreciate the region’s natural beauty. Overnight stay in Saheb Bagar.
The trek continues with a 5-hour walk, retracing our steps through the forests and meadows. The return journey feels easier as we descend in altitude. We reach Domal by afternoon and set up camp for the night.
A 6-hour trek takes us back through familiar trails, where we once again cross suspension bridges and cascading rivers. As we lose elevation, the air becomes warmer, and the forests feel denser. Overnight in Ghusa.
Another 5–6 hour trek brings us back to Latinath. The descent is smooth, and we take our time enjoying the landscapes before reaching the village. After days of camping, we enjoy the comfort of a teahouse stay.
We take a 4-hour drive down to Gokuleshwar, transitioning from mountain landscapes to hilltop settlements and riverside roads. Upon arrival, we relax and celebrate the completion of our trek with a warm meal.
