Our country Nepal is not only famous for Himalayas and Mountains or for God and Goddess. Nepal is also famous for festivals; Nepal is also known by a land of festivals. There are more than 50 festivals which we Nepali people used to celebrate. Although most of these festivals and religious some have historical significance while others are seasonal and legendary celebrations.  Our national festivals have fixed date and religious festivals are set by astrologers following the lunar calendar. The main thing is that now in this modern age also people celebrate all these festivals with the same interest and galore like people celebrate before in ancient age where they had no other means of entertainment. Cultural festivals in Nepal are usually very colorful, exciting, and act like the feeling of unity and togetherness. Some of the biggest and popular festivals are: Dashain a celebration of Goddess Durga victory over evil Mahisashur; and Tihar, a celebration of lights dedicated to Goddess Laxmi. Cultural acts of dances and songs are essential parts of some celebration, whereas some celebrations are just family gatherings.
