Annapurna IV Expedition

Annapurna IV (7525m) closer to Annapurna II is considered a relatively easier mountain to climb among all the Annapurna’s. Annapurna IV was first climbed in 1955 by a German expedition led by Heinz Steinmetz, via the North Face and Northwest Ridge. The summit party comprised Steinmetz, Herald Biller, and Jurgen Wellenkamp. The normal route for climbing the peak is from Manang side. It takes two hours walking from the base camp to reach the bottom of the mountain. It requires nearly 65-70 degrees of steep climbing with fixed ropes nearly 500 meters to reach camp. To reach Camp II, approx.100m of fixed ropes will be required along the ridge and some stretches of steep climbing. From camp II to camp III it is relatively easy with zigzag crossing and gradually climbing up. However, it will require appox. 1300-1500 meters fixed rope. From camp III to the summit, generally fixed rope is not required; however, the main rope is used. There are possibilities of snow slide between Camp I and II.
